Like no other the agricultural sector is directly dependent on the climate and the weather. Rising temperatures and hotter summers are being expected. Also the amount and distribution of rainfall will change. Both will lead to a lower quality of crops as well as lower crop yields and can lead as far as a complete crop failure. A greater frequency of extreme weather events such as intense rain, storms and droughts will increase soil erosion.

Already in 2010 the federal state government of Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt) adopted a strategy on adaption to climate change. This strategy defines extensive targets and measures in many sectors. In 2013 the strategy on adaption to climate change was updated and in this year adjusted.

Now, in line with the present EU-agricultural reform, it is necessary to implement framework requirements to enhance the preparedness and capacity of the agricultural sector to respond to the impacts of climate change. How can the future CAP (GAP) be adjusted to support adaption strategies? Which contribution can organic farming and a modern agriculture make and which instruments do they need as support?

These and other questions will be discussed in the upcoming conference.
